On 6 February 2023, the Spring Festival Lighting-up Event initiated by Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office and Huangpu District Government drew to a successful close at the iconic Yuyuan Garden in downtown Huangpu District. The event was co-organized by Fosun Group and Shanghai Yuyuan Tourist Mart Co.Ltd. Gao Yun, District Party Secretary of the Huangpu District Government, and Shen Shanzhou, Deputy District Party Secretary and Director of the Huangpu District Government, Fu Jihong, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office, Xu Zhi, Standing Member of Huangpu District Party Committee and Deputy Director of Huangpu District Government, with more than 80 diplomats and representatives from business communities have attended the event. As the Dean of the Shanghai Diplomatic Corps, Dr.Yok Yee Chan, Consul General of the Republic of Fiji in Shanghai was invited as guest of honour.
During the lantern show tour, the guests watched the beautiful lanterns designed as deities and monsters in the ancient Chinese classic The Classic of Mountains and Rivers. Gao Yun, District Party Secretary of the Huangpu District Government and Shen Shanzhou, Deputy District Party Secretary and Director of the Huangpu District Government, Fu Jihong, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office, Xu Zhi, Standing Member of Huangpu District Party Committee and Deputy Director of Huangpu District Government, Dr.Chan, Consul General of the Republic of Fiji and Xu Xiaoliang, CEO of Fosun Group together triggered the Lantern Lighting-up bottom to mark the event.
The event aims to showcase the prosperity and vitality of Shanghai’s rich culture, as well as it’s friendly business environment, and has established a platform to further promote friendly exchanges and contacts between China and the world. In the margins of the event, Dr.Chan said that “We are hopeful that in the year 2023, under the leadership of the new government, there will be more trade delegations to China to explore trade and investment opportunities and also enhance our bilateral relationship in the near future.
