Celebration of the 45th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Fiji and China

Upon the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Fiji, the celebration events on 5th Nov were held paralleled at the two capitals, attended by Fijian President Jioji Konrote and Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama in Suva and H.E. Fijian Ambassador to China Mr. Tagicakibau in Beijing.

The Republic of the Fiji Islands was the first Pacific island country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, in 1975. China established an embassy in Fiji in 1976, and Fiji opened its embassy in China in 2001.

Celebrations in Suva


During the event in Suva, Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Yogesh Karan referred to the “mutual respect for sovereignty and cooperation” as the premise for the “strong and steadfast relations” between the two countries. Mr Karan added that China has keenly supported Fiji’s development and progress, including efforts to attain its sustainable development goals.
