Fiji’s 50th Anniversary of Independence celebrated in Shanghai

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Fiji’s Independence, a joint effort promotional event, involving Fiji’s Consulate General in Shanghai, Tourism Fiji, Fiji Airways, and with the support of Ctrip was held at the House of Roosevelt, located beside the beautiful Bund. Invitees to the event included travel agents, journalists and other tourism industry stakeholders.

As this was the first large gathering of the Fijian community in China since the outbreak of COVID, the celebration had an upbeat note as Dr. Chan opened the event with a short welcome speech. Mr. Vincent Zheng, TourismFiji’s Regional Manager in Greater China assured the audience of a resilient tourism sector by highlighting the most recent promotion campaign of “Our Bula Spirit awaits you”.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. Chan highlighted Fiji’s successful containment of Covid-19 and mentioned the Fijian Government’s efforts in response to the pandemic.  She made reference to  a few initiatives introduced by the Fijian government to attract tourists to Fiji once the pandemic situation improves. Those include the reductionin departure tax from F$200 to F$100 and a Rebate Package of F$400 stipend for the first 150,000 visitors purchasing Fijian holiday package through Fiji Airways.

During the event, guests were free to try the products of Fijian water, Fijian Beer and Pure Fiji, overlooking the beautiful Bund scenery from an open platform.  Many attendees also had therare opportunity to perform Yoga at this beautiful venue.  The event concluded with many guests winning lucky draw prizes, which included free air tickets to Fiji, free packages to Fiji to holiday on one of Fiji’s most beautiful islands and other treasured prizes donated by Ctrip and the Consulate General office.
