In an official trip on 20 July to further strengthen and develop the country’strade andeconomic ties with Shaoxing, the Consul General of the Republic of Fiji in Shanghai Dr. Chan met with Mr. Shao Quanmao, the vice mayor of the city to seek deeper cooperation across the fields given the complementarities between the two economies.

Prior to the official dinner with the Vice Mayor, Dr. Chan also met withsenior officials from the Foreign Affairs Office and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Shaoxing. During the meeting, Dr. Chan and Mr.Chen Jieye, the director of the Foreign Affairs Officeof Shaoxingtook turns to introduce thecountry’sbusiness-friendly investment policies and the city’scharacteristic massive economy. Both sideshighlighted the sister city relationship between Shaoxing and Suva, and agreed to further step up the business cooperation, which according to Mr. Wang Jianwen, the Vice Chairman of CCPIT Shaoxing, has beendriven by the investments made by a couple of local businesses into the agriculture and construction industries in Fiji.

On the second day, Dr.Chan tookan inspection trip to Sunme Group, one of the local companies with investment projects in Fiji.
