CG travels to China’s Greater Bay Area eyeing more business opportunities

At the invitation from the Guangzhou-based South Pacific Cultural Exchange Center, the Consul General of the Republic of Fiji in Shanghai Dr. Chan travelled to Guangzhou on June 28 to attend the launching ceremony of the Greater Bay Area Salad Bowl (platform), a trade & exhibition center to supply 70 million people with high-quality agricultural products from across China. Officials from Guangzhou Rural Affairs, Commerce Bureau and the local market supervision authority also attended the event.

Mr. Yuan Guiyang, the director of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee delivered the opening speech and referred to the launch of the platform as a key sectoral answer under China’s Greater Bay Area Strategy to integrate the agricultural products market in this region. At the margins of the event, there was discussion on the possibility of introducing Fijian premium agricultural products including mangoes, papayas, pineapples and gingers to the Chinese market through this platform launched in Guangzhou, the city at the forefront of collaborating with Maritime Silkroad Countries under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

During the trip, CG also visited Jiangmen and had discussions with the investors there about trade and investment opportunities in Fiji.
