Fiji Successfully Host 52nd ADB Annual Meeting

The 52nd Asian Development Bank - ADB Board of Governors Annual Meeting was held on 3rd May in Nadi, Fiji as more than 2000 delegates and 140 journalists from the Asia Pacific region and beyond converged to Denarau Island to discuss a series of issues including climate action and ocean preservation over which Fiji has been leading the global efforts.


The whole event began with a traditional welcome ceremony before the Hon. Fijian PM Bainimarama opened the conference. The Chair of the Board of Governors and Fijian Minister for Economy Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said that Fiji was the first-ever Pacific island nation that hosted the meeting must be seen as an achievement for the Pacific.

ADB president Takehiko Nakao, in a press conference that day said the arrangements, logistically, and the issues such as climate change and sustainable tourism were discussed and had exceeded his expectations. South Korea will host the next ADB Conference in 2020.
