On July 16, 2023, the Consuls Generals Luncheon (abbr. as CGs Luncheon) was successfully concluded at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Initiated and organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Fiji in Shanghai, the luncheon received a warm response and strong support from the Consular Corps in Shanghai and brought together consular officials from nearly 30 countries.

The event witnessed the official opening of the Consuls General Club on the 86th floor of Jinmao Tower and was generously sponsored by the Four Gentlemen Classical Furniture Group, the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and the Junbang Group. Dr. Yok Yee Chan, Dean of Shanghai Diplomatic Corps and Consul General of Fiji in Shanghai and Mr. Chen Yushu, Chairman of Four Gentlemen Classical Furniture, led a tour to the Club on the 86th Floor. The purpose of the visit was tofamiliarize the Consular Officers with the facilities and environment of the Club so that they can better utilize this platform for communication and cooperation.

The event started in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Dr. Yok Yee Chan warmly welcomed the guests, introduced the Club, and invited the Consuls General of Australia, Mongolia, Slovakia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan, who have recently arrived in Shanghai to take up their new posts, to speak. Afterwards, Ms. Stephanie Lin, representative of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, made introductions of the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Then Dr. Yok Yee Chan together with Ms. Stephanie Lin and Ms. Sun Yan, Chairman of Junbang Group inaugurated the Consuls General Club.

We are confident that the Consuls General Club in Shanghai will become a key platform for communication and exchange between consular officials and promote cooperation with local governments and organizations. Fiji also hopes to use this opportunity to fully utilize the influence of the Consular Corps to contribute more to the development of the community and to take on more social responsibilities. Such a platform will promote cooperation and understanding among countries and create a more favorable environment for common development.
